A1.
This DDos attack was definitely bigger than any attacks we have experienced in the past. UDP attack was performed to multiple network equipments and top page of 2ch.net.

Q2.
Please let me know what measures you did?

A2.
We were estimating the attack to be at a scale of previous DDos, though this attack was more organized, and bigger in scale. We were able to block majority of the illegal traffic to our network equipments. Though to 2ch.net top page, we could not block all as it is used by so many users. After continuous DDos attack from different IPs, we requested 2ch.net's top page to be shut down and investigate. After looking into the log in the server with help of all parties, we were able to stop the DDos attack.

Q3.
The access from Japan is very steady now. Please let me know current situation about PIE network.

A3.
We receive bandwidth from multiple tier1 providers to provide the best route to Japan. DDos can take down one server in our network, and DDos may slow the connection. Though all our servers were accessible due to the result of our redundant network.

Any messages to Japanese customers?

First of all, as President of Pacific Internet Exchange, LLC, I would like to apologize to our hosting customers, and users of services provided by our customers.

This UDP attack unfortunately was bigger than what we have scaled and took down one server out of more than 1,000 servers we have.

We at PIE are always learning, and trying to provide the best service and usability for our customers. To protect this popular site, we will be making exception to our policy. We are internally discussing about "2ch.net BP (bullet proof) project". This discussion has only been made internally, but we WANT to make usability better for 10million users of 2ch.net and PIE customers.
